Η έμπνευση αντλείται από πολλά και διάφορα θέματα και πολλές φορές έρχεται απροσδόκητα. Μπορεί να είναι από απλά και καθημερινά πράγματα που συμβαίνουν γύρω σου, τη φύση ή ακόμα και από τις τέχνες.
Συγκεκριμένα, η μόδα και η ζωγραφική ήταν πάντα στενά συνδεδεμένες έννοιες, γι’ αυτό δεν είναι λίγοι οι σχεδιαστές που την προτιμούν ως μέσο έμπνευσης και χρησιμοποιούν συγκεκριμένα μοτίβα για να τα αποδώσουν σε μια πιο μοντέρνα έκδοση. Επίσης, γνωστοί πίνακες ταλαντούχων ζωγράφων αποτελούν τη «μακέτα» πολλών φωτογραφήσεων.
